My Story
Cara Rose has a small studio in her home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She is a board member of the Foothills Craft Guild and a member of the Oak Ridge Art Center and the Mountain Potters Network. She has been playing in the mud for more than 15 years. Her work is available in person at the Knoxville Museum of Art Gift Shop, 3rd floor of the museum at 1050 Worlds Fair Park Drive, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and in Locally Grown Gallery (right behind The Soup Kitchen in Historic Jackson Square), 109 Towne Road, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
My Process
My pots are usually thrown on a pottery wheel (Shimpo VL Whisper), although I also hand build and alter pots after they are formed. My pieces are often highly decorated using slip and underglaze to create sgraffito and/or mishima embellishments. Additional techniques include carving, water etching, homemade newsprint underglaze transfers. Sometimes I even add sculptural elements to my work.
